STAMFORD, CT—The NJIT men's tennis team opened its spring 2015 campaign with a convincing 7-0 sweep against Fairfield on Friday evening held at the Solaris Club in Stamford.
The Highlanders, who competed in five tournaments in the fall and finished the 2013-14 season owning a 14-6 overall mark, won two out of three doubles contests and swept singles competition, cruising to a 7-0 victory over the Stags.
Doubles pair
Markus Schultz and
Arnaud Holl won 6-2 at first doubles, topping Stags pair Brad Orban and Ofir Solomon. Schultz won in straight sets at first singles, 6-2, 7-5 defeating Solomon while Holl won a three-set tilt at third singles topping Cameron Amyot, 6-7(8), 6-1, 6-0.
Highlander duo
Andres Alban and
Jan Cimrman defeated Amyot and Dyland Appel, 6-3. Alban, competing at the second spot, picked up a 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory over Orban while Cimrman, who recently joined the Highlanders squad and hails from Germany, won in straight sets at fourth singles, 6-0, 6-4, over Peter Colliard.
NJIT's
Richard Rangga and
Carl Jedlinski dropped a 7-6(6) decision at third doubles to Fairfield's Colliard and Luke Lemieux. Rangga won in straight sets at fifth singles, 6-2, 7-6(4) topping Fairfield's Appel.
Highlander
Luka Kaic won in straight sets over Stags Lemieux, 6-4, 6-3 at the sixth spot.
NJIT will be back in action on February 7 when the Highlanders host Fairleigh Dickinson at 1pm in The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
