PHILADELPHIA—The NJIT men's club ice hockey team visited Penn in the Highlanders first league game of the semester earning a 7-4 victory at Class of '23 Rink.
After a slow start which saw Penn take a 1-0 lead early in the first on a power play, the Highlanders finished the period scoring three times in the final five minutes with goals from Corrodo Mancini,
Adam Finkle, and
Alexander Fleischmann to take a 3-1 lead heading into intermission.
In the second period, NJIT added to the lead early with Finkle's second goal of the game. Penn answered with a goal of their own before Mancini added his second goal of the game and
Richard Labarbiera scored giving the Highlanders a 6-2 lead heading into the third.
Penn was able to come within two goals after scoring twice in the early portion of the third but
Thomas Pyrka stood strong in the third period securing victory.
With less than a minute remaining in the period,
Matthew Lepinski scored his first goal as a Highlander to guarantee the victory.
