NEWARK, NJ--
NJIT freshman David Kong is 17th out of 24 fencers in the men's foil competition after Day One at the 2014 NCAA Fencing Championships hosted by Ohio State in French Field House.

Fencers competed in a round-robin format of five-touch bouts for five rounds. The top four finishers in each weapon after round-robin competition will fence in semifinal 15-touch bouts, with winners fencing to determine first and second-places, and the non-advancing fencers tying for third place.

Kong competed in 15 bouts Saturday, recording a 5-10 overall mark – with key wins over Joseph Lame from Duke (5-1), Jason Chang from Penn (5-2), Max Blitzer from St. John's (5-3), Harrison Bergman of Columbia (5-0) and Alex Chiang from Air Force (5-3).

The freshman from Rutherford, NJ, will return to action on Sunday and compete in eight bouts.
