NEWARK, NJ—Visiting University at Buffalo won its fourth straight 4-3 decision Friday afternoon, edging NJIT in the Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
Buffalo, ranked No. 56 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association's top 75 college team rankings, improves to 6-1 on the season, while the Highlanders drop their second straight match, falling to a 6-3 record.
NJIT earned the doubles point Friday, winning two out of three contests and recorded two additional points at first and third singles, as the visiting Bulls edged NJIT, 4-3.
Highlander pair
Erik Artursson and
Andres Alban won 8-6 at first doubles defeating Damien David and Akhil Mehta. Alban won in straight sets at third singles topping Buffalo's Pablo Alvarez, 7-6(4), 6-2.
NJIT's
Markus Schultz and
Holger Norregaard were 8-5 winners at second doubles topping Jonathan Hannestad and Sergio Arevallio. Schultz, competing at first singles improved to a perfect 8-0 in dual matches with a straight set victory over Sebastian Ionescu, 7-6(4), 6-2.
NJIT will have a quick turnaround when the Highlanders travel to Ithaca, New York Saturday and face No. 50 University of Nebraska at Cornell. The match is slated to start at 6pm.
