NEWARK, NJ—What a difference a day makes! The NJIT club men's ice hockey team scored more goals than they had in the first five games of the season combined defeating visiting LIU Post, 10-3, at the Prudential Center.
Back home after losing to Princeton Friday night, NJIT started strong again and this time the offense was more than enough to make up for anything that LIU-Post Pioneers could manage. Alex Fleischmann sprung Dave Ferrero each had 4 goals, while Chris Murphy and
Adam Finkle each had 4 assists. Richard LaBarbiera notched his first goal as a Highlander on a 1
st period power play. The rest of the period was uneventful until Alex Fleischmann sprung Dave Ferrero for a break-away goal in the last minute.
The momentum from that goal carried over into the 2
nd period as the Highlanders scored 5 unanswered goals to take a 7-0 lead.
Early in the 3
rd period the home team slumped for a few minutes, as is their habit, and gave the Pioneers a little hope as they cut the lead to 7-3. This time the Highlanders responded.
Fleischmann ended the Pioneers surge with a pair of goals before veteran defenseman
Nick Wujek closed out the scoring, to cap off a 10-3 victory.
