SAN FRANCISCO—Freshmen Henrique Marques and Simon Rizell of the NJIT men's fencing team competed in fencing's Senior World Cup Saturday in an international field that included the world's top foil fencers. Collegiate fencers are allowed to partake in non-college competition outside the NCAA-designated dates for the sport. The field included 194 entrants from 36 countries.
Marques, from Sao Paulo Brazil, was seeded 42nd out of Pool Competition, and lost his first direct elimination round to Andre Sanita of Germany (7-15). Marques placed 107th overall.
