LORETTO, PA—Saint Francis (PA) defeated visiting NJIT in straight sets, (25-23, 25-20, 25-21) Friday evening in Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association men's volleyball conference action at DeGol Arena.
In the first meeting of the season series in Newark on March 1, Saint Francis (PA) defeated the Highlanders, in a five-set thriller that took more than two hours of volleyball, in a come-from-behind victory.
Saint Francis (PA) (11-15, 6-7 EIVA) was paced by Logan Patterson who shared match-high honors with NJIT's
Chris Kaepernick with 13 kills. Patterson finished the match with a .478 hitting percentage with 13 kills on 23 swings and just two errors while also sharing match-high honors with teammate Adam Roche with seven total blocks (all assists).
Kyle Beatty added seven kills and five digs while three Red Flash combined for six kills. Setter Michael Krepp piled up a match-high 36 assists while the Red Flash held a 13.5-to-5.0 team blocking advantage over the visiting Highlanders. Saint Francis's Sherwin combined for a match-high nine digs in the victory.
Leading the way for NJIT was sophomore Kaepernick with 13 kills and five digs while
Kevin Van Oss and
Kajetan Borecki each added seven kills. Highlanders
Doug Battersby and
Dhruv Lad added four kills apiece.
NJIT (7-20, 4-9 EIVA) setters
Zak Robben and
Matthew Lui combined for 18 and 17 assists respectively. Defensively, libero
Brady Smith, a second-team all-EIVA honoree, led the Highlanders with six digs while three Highlanders registered five digs. Battersby led the Highlanders with four total blocks (1 solo and three assists).
The Highlanders will conclude the 2013 season on Saturday at No. 14 Penn State at 5:30pm.
