DUE WEST, SC—Erskine edged visiting NJIT, 3-2, Monday night in men's volleyball non-conference action at Belk Arena.
Erskine, which snaps a three-match skid, improves to 11-12 overall after defeating the Highlanders 21-25, 15-25, 25-18, 25-21, 15-10.
NJIT (4-15) took the first two sets of the night but it Erskine rallied back, winning the next three frames to earn the victory.
Leading the attack for Erskine was Mike Kawa, who registered a match-high 26 kills followed by Mike Michelau with 11. Omar Melendez and Neal Stanley finished with nine and eight kills, respectively.
Setter Corey Marks notched a double-double with 52 assists and match-high 14 digs to go along with four block assists for the home team.
Michael Schneck finished with 10 digs defensively for Erskine while also holding a 17-to-8 team blocks advantage led by Kawa, Michelau and Andrew Davis with eight total blocks each.
The Highlanders were paced by sophomore
Chris Kaepernick, who was one dig shy of a double-double recording a team-high 14 kills and nine digs, while newcomer
Kajetan Borecki combined for 13 kills and six digs.
Doug Battersby and
Dhruv Lad each posted seven kills apiece and setter
Matthew Lui piled up 29 assists and nine digs for the Highlanders.
Libero
Brady Smith dug up 13 digs followed by Lad with (11) and Kaepernick and Lui with (9) for the visitors.
The Highlanders will visit Limestone in South Carolina on March 19, and, after a day off, visit Lees-McRae and Pfeiffer in North Carolina on March 21 and 22, respectively.
