NEWARK, NJ—The NJIT men's tennis team opened up the 2013 season blanking visiting Sacred Heart, 7-0, at the The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
 
The NJIT men won each of the singles contests in straight sets and swept the doubles contests with an 8-2 and 8-3 victory with third doubles being halted 5-4 (unfinished).
 
Petr Rousar and Erik Artursson were 8-2 winners at first doubles followed by Holger Norregaard and Andres Alban at the second spot, earning an 8-3 victory.
 
NJIT's Fraser Croad and Jack Felich's match was halted at 5-4 (unfinished) at third doubles.
 
Norregaard was a 6-1, 6-4 winner at first singles as doubles partner Alban followed up with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at second singles over Mike Provenzano.
 
Markus Schultz, who just recently joined the Highlanders in the beginning of January, won his first collegiate match with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at third singles over John Lopresti.
 
Rousar won 6-2, 6-1 at the fourth spot while Artursson and Croad won by identical scores, 6-3, 6-3 and 6-2, 6-2 at fifth and sixth singles Saturday.
 
The Highlanders will return to action on Sunday at Saint Peter's.  The match is scheduled to start at 1pm.
