Men's Ice Hockey

NJIT 6, Muhlenberg 6

NEWARK, NJ—In a rematch of the 2010 championship game, the NJIT Highlanders faced off against the Muhlenberg Mules in a see-saw battle that had 12 goals scored in regulation.   But when it came to OT neither team could put one in to win the game.

With Corrado Mancini back on the ice for the first time since suffering a broken wrist in October the Highlanders clearly had some energy and after falling behind by two goals they went to work.

Christopher Oertel took a feed from Adam Finkle and cut the lead in half with a slap shot from the point.  After another Muhlenberg goal NJIT reeled off four straight of their own, to take a 5-3 lead.  Mancini and Robert Amos worked a perfect 2 on 0 that ended in the net off a sweet backhand by Maninci.

With .01 seconds left in the 2nd period, Kyle Bendel was awarded a penalty shot and converted for his first career goal to tie the game at 3.

The 3rd period was more of the same as Jason Anagnos' goal (assist to Christian Corey) gave NJIT it's first lead of the night and Oertel's 2nd goal (assist to Anagnos) extended the lead to 5-3.

Muhlenberg was not done though as they scored 2 in a row to tie it again with 5 plus minutes left in regulation.  Amos on an exciting end-to-end rush put the Highlanders back in the drivers' seat with just over 3 minutes to play, but as close as they got to winning it wasn't meant to be as Muhlenberg tied the game on a buzzer beater with less than 1 second remaining.

On the tying goal NJIT was assessed a minor penalty and had to start the OT period down 4-3 in manpower.  Only some tremendous penalty killing lead by Mike Lipinski in net kept the game tied.  After a few chances for each team the final horn sounded and the scoreboard read 6-6.
