NEWARK, NJ—In a victorious showing, the NJIT men's swimming team swam past St. Francis (Brooklyn) for the second time this season in a 139-121 win. The Highlanders fell to Bryant, 95-158.
NJIT posted three individual school records by three freshman,
Jonathan Drori,
Dennis Popov, and
Richard Seffrin.
Freshman
Dennis Popov began the record setting meet with a stellar swim in the 200 Butterfly, placing 1
st overall and breaking his own record by a second with a time of 2:03.80.
Freshman
Jonathan Drori broke the 200 Backstroke record set by his teammate sophomore
JT Stefan last year, by over a second with a time of 2:13.53 placing 1
st against St. Francis. Stefan placed 3
rd against St. Francis in the same event with a 2:15.79.
Freshman
Richard Seffrin placed 1
st in 400 Individual Medley, breaking his teammate, Popov's, school record with a time of 4:20.41. Seffrin also placed 1
st overall in the 1000 Freestyle with a 10:11.50 and 2
nd place overall in the 200 Breaststroke with a 2:16.39.
Freshman
Brian Capozzola placed 1
st overall in the 50 Freestyle, 2
nd overall in the 200 Freestyle with a 1:46.90, and 2
nd overall in the 100 Freestyle with a 48.68. Senior
Shawn Bryan placed 3
rd against both teams in the 50 Freestyle with a 22.88.
Stefan placed 2
nd against St. Francis in the 100 Backstroke with a season best time of 1:01.81.
Drori, in the 100 Breaststroke touched out the swimmer next to him for a 1
st place against St. Francis with a time of 1:05.41. He also placed 2
nd overall in the 500 Freestyle with a seasonal best of 5:01.99.
The 200 Medley Relay consisting of Stefan, Seffrin, junior
Victor Razuk , and junior
Christian Barnard placed 3
rd overall with a 1:47.90.
The 400 Freestyle Relay was touched out for a 2
nd place finish. The relay consisting of Capozzola, Drori, Popov, and Bryan has a time of 3:19.71.
NJIT Men's Swimming will be back in action on Monday January 21 at Montclair State University.
