LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ—The NJIT men's tennis team defeated Rider, 6-1, in the 2012 season opener for NJIT Wednesday at the Campus Courts.
NJIT, which finished with a 13-9 overall mark last season, took all three doubles contests from the Broncs and won five out of six singles contests. Rider won its lone set by default at sixth singles.
Sophomore
Holger Norregaard and freshman
Jack Felich teamed for a 8-2 victory at first doubles. Felich, a freshman La Quinta, CA won in straight sets at fifth singles, 6-1, 6-2.
Highlander duo
Andres Alban and
Fraser Croad blanked Rider's John Spellman and Mike Gershon, 8-0, at second doubles. Alban, a freshman from Bogota, Colombia and Croad the Highlanders only senior won by identical scores, 6-0, 6-0 at first and fourth singles.
Petr Rousar and
Erik Artursson were also 8-0 winners at third doubles for NJIT. Rousar won 6-0, 3-1, retired at third singles while
Artursson, another freshman, who is from Sollentuna, Sweden won by identical scores, 6-1, 6-1 at second singles.
The Highlanders will return to action on September 28-30 at the Penn Invitational.
