NEWARK, NJ—The NJIT men's tennis team wrapped up the home portion of its schedule with a 5-2 victory over Hofstra Saturday afternoon at The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
The match was originally scheduled to be played at Hofstra but was moved to NJIT due to the expected rain in the New York area.
NJIT (12-7) started off the match taking the doubles point with wins at first and second doubles.
Victor Martinez and
Petr Rousar were 8-4 winners at the first spot followed by
Holger Norregaard and
Ike Kiro at second doubles with an 8-3 victory.
Norregaard and Rousar both won in straight sets, with Norregaard winning at first singles, 7-5, 6-1 and Rousar at the third spot, 6-3, 6-2.
The other two Highlanders to post wins in the singles competition were
Joao Tasca and
Dan Salomon. Tasca won by identical scores, 6-1, 6-1 at fifth singles while Salomon was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at the sixth spot.
NJIT will play its final three matches of the season on the road. Next up for the Highlanders is Hartford on Sunday, April 1 at 11am.
