NEWARK, NJ – The NJIT men's tennis team swept visiting Monmouth, 7-0, Friday evening at The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
NJIT (7-2) won its fourth straight match of the season winning two out of three doubles contests and sweeping the singles contests Friday.
Last season, Monmouth edged the Highlanders 4-3 on March 5.
In doubles competition, the Highlanders picked up wins at second and third doubles. NJIT pair
Holger Norregaard and
Ike Kiro were 8-6 winners at the second spot followed by
Joao Tasca and
Bryan Keelan at third doubles, 8-3.
Norregaard, playing at first singles and
Petr Rousar at second singles, both won by identical scores over Monmouth's Carl Jedlinksi (6-1, 6-1) and Lawrence Heads (6-4, 6-4).
Ike Kiro was a 6-1, 6-3 winner at the third spot over David Sherwood followed by teammate
Victor Martinez at fourth singles, 7-5, 6-4.
Tasca went three sets with Monmouth's Jason Rothstein taking the first set, 6-2, but was downed 7-5 in the second frame. Tasca bounced back to earn the point with an 11-9 victory.
Fraser Croad won in straight sets at sixth singles, 6-4, 6-0 over Monmouth's Tom Kowalski.
The Highlanders will return to action on Saturday at The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility and host LaSalle at 12pm.
