Men’s Tennis Takes Villanova & Saint Francis, 5-2

NEWARK, NJ – The NJIT men's tennis team recorded two 5-2 victories over Villanova and Saint Francis Saturday at The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
 
Match vs. Villanova
The NJIT Highlanders won five out of six singles contests defeating Villanova Saturday.  The visitors earned the doubles point winning two out of three spots and also picked up a win at third singles.
 
The only doubles contest the Highlanders won was at second doubles that featured Holger Norregaard and Ike Kiro.  The duo won the set, 8-2.
 
NJIT's Norregaard topped Villanova's Thomas O'Brien, 6-3, 6-1 at first singles followed by a 7-6 (5), 6-2 victory by Petr Rousar at the second spot.  Joao Tasca was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at fifth singles.
 
At the fourth spot, Kiro went the distance defeating Villanova's Mike Rosengren.  Rosengren took the first set, 6-3, but Kiro bounced back taking the final two frames for the win.
 
Fraser Croad, competing at sixth singles won the three-set tilt over Villanova's Mark Miller.  The match was tied at 1-1 with Croad taking the first set, 6-2, and Miller the second at 6-4.  NJIT's Croad picked up the Highlanders final point of the match with a 10-5 victory in the final set.
 
Match vs. Saint Francis
NJIT started off by taking the doubles points with victories at second and third doubles.  Highlander pair of Croad and Dan Salomon combined for an 8-2 win a the second spot followed by a 8-1 victory from Bryan Keelan and Angelito Mamutuk at third doubles.
 
In the singles competition, the Highlanders won four out of six contests.
 
NJIT's Rousar, playing at first singles vs. Saint Francis, battled out a three-set tilt with Saint Francis's Tita Mba.  Mba took the first set 6-4 as Rousar bounced back with a 6-3, 10-6 victory.
 
Tasca was a 6-2, 6-0 winner at third singles over Alex Tokarz.  Croad won by identical scores 6-0, 6-0 at fourth singles and Salomon won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1 at fifth singles.
 
Saint Francis earned points at third and six singles.
 
The Highlanders (5-2) will play its next four matches at The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.  NJIT will host Wagner on February 22 at 6pm.
