HAVERFORD, PA—The NJIT men's fencing team finished with a 3-2 overall record while the men's sabre squad combined for a 39-6 overall record against five opponents at the Haverford Invitational Saturday hosted by Haverford.
The Highlanders came up with wins over University of Maryland (15-12), William & Mary (17-10) and University of Virginia (18-9) while falling to Johns Hopkins (19-8) and host Haverford (15-12).
NJIT vs. Maryland, W, 15-12
The NJIT sabre squad which consisted of Adam Lewici, Bryan Ransinague and
Dylan Carr blanked Maryland, 9-0. The NJIT foil and epee squad went 3-6 against Maryland. On the epee strip,
Guillaume Lanteri went 3-0 while on the foil strip senior
Max McDermott also finished 3-0 against Maryland.
NJIT vs. William & Mary, W, 17-10
The NJIT sabre squad which consisted of Lewici, Ransinague and Carr went a perfect, 9-0, against William & Mary. The NJIT foil squad finished 5-4 with McDermott and
Ian Pershad compiling a 2-1 record while
Dan Wolfenden picked up one victory. The NJIT epee squad was led by Lanteri who went a perfect 3-0.
NJIT vs. Johns Hopkins, L, 8-19
The NJIT sabre squad went 4-5 while the foil and epee squad combined for a 2-7 record. On the sabre strip, Carr led the Highlanders with two wins while Lewicki and Ransingaue each finished with one win. Lanteri went 2-1 on the epee strip while McDermott and Pershad each picked up a win on the foil strip.
NJIT vs. Virginia, W, 18-9
Leading the way for the Highlanders against Virginia was the men's sabre squad who finished 9-0 followed by the epee squad which combined for a 5-4 record and on the foil strip McDermott went 3-0 with Pershad adding a victory. Lanteri finished 3-0 on the epee strip for the third time Saturday while
Edward He and
Ian Constantin went 1-2.
NJIT vs. Haverford, L, 12-15
The men's sabre squad finished with an 8-1 record led by Lewicki and Ransinague going 3-0 while Carr finished 2-1. Lanteri went 2-1 on the epee strip while McDermott finished 2-1 on the foil strip.
