NEWARK, NJ—In the final tune-up before hitting the road to the ACHA D-II showcase, NJIT beat LIU Post 3-1 in a game that wasn't as close as the score Sunday evening at Prudential Center in downtown Newark.
NJIT out-shoot the visiting Pioneers 45 – 20. The Highlanders ran into a hot goalie, but sti1l managed to put three shots behind him while at the other end
Nicholas Raite was even better as he stopped all but one of the shots against him.
The Pioneers scored first in the opening period. The Highlanders answered with two in the second.
Hard work in the corner and a great feed by
Ryan D'Souza to set up
Chris Sala in the slot for his first of the year, which tied the game, and
Adam Finkle roofed a shot over the goalie from a seemingly impossible angle for the game-winner.
Alex Guimaraes picked the corner for an insurance goal in the third with an assist by
Gary Apito.
The team is off to Rockville, MD to play Kentucky, Texas State, and Louisville this weekend in their second appearance at the ACHA D-II Showcase.
They will be looking to improve on last year's 1-2-0 record in St. Louis, MO
