PHILADELPHIA – The NJIT men's and women's fencing teams kicked off the 2012 season at the Philadelphia Invitational this weekend hosted by University of Pennsylvania.
The NJIT men fenced against Drew, John Hopkins, UPenn, Duke, #9 Sacred Heart and North Carolina. The only win of the day for the Highlander men was a 14-13 victory over the Tarheels.
On the women's side, the Highlanders fenced Drew, Duke, Cornell, Northwestern, and UPenn. The women finished 1-5 on the day with its only victory against Drew, 17-10.
Freshman
Julia Aronov finished the day 8-7 overall on the epee strip followed by
Jaila Graham with a 7-8 record. Graham went 3-0 against Drew and 2-1 vs. host UPenn. The epee squad ended with a 21-24 overall record.
Jennifer Ramos and
Crystal Ramjattan both finished the day with a 4-11 record on the foil strip while the foil squad went 8-1 vs. Drew.
The NJIT men were led by junior
Max McDermott with a 14-8 record on the day. McDermott swept Drew, Johns Hopkins, Penn and North Carolina on the foil strip.
Sophomore
Bryan Ransinangue went 8-10 on the saber strip and junior
Christian Aldover posted a 9-9 record. Aldover swept North Carolina and Ransinangue picked up two wins vs. Drew and North Carolina.
Dylan Carr finished with a 6-12 record as the saber squad combined for a 24-28 record on the day.
