HEMPSTEAD, NY – Martin Cederqvist's 6-3, 6-2 victory at sixth singles gave NJIT a 4-3 victory over Hofstra Saturday evening at the Hofstra Outdoor Tennis Center.
NJIT (8-8) captured the doubles point taking two out of three doubles contests. Ike Kiro and Cederqvist were 8-6 winners at the second spot followed by a 9-7 victory at third doubles by Fraser Croad and Bryan Keelan.
The Highlanders took a 3-1 lead after the first three singles spots were played. Joao Tasca and Kiro won in straight sets for NJIT. Tasca was a 7-5, 6-2 winner at second singles and Kiro won 6-3, 7-5 at third. Hofstra's Antonio Pena earned a point for the Pride at first singles.
Hofstra came back to tie the match at 3-3 after Matt Gemmell's three set victory, 3-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 at fourth singles and Adrien Bailieys 6-4, 6-2 win at the fifth spot.
NJIT's Cederqvist 6-3, 6-2 victory over Hofstra's Jasoin Sinkoff at sixth singles claimed the match for the Highlanders.
The Highlanders will return to action on Sunday when the team visits St. Joseph's at 12:30pm.
