RICHMOND, VA – Defending National Independent Tournament Champion Longwood defeated NJIT, 4-0, Saturday morning at Rain Tree Courts in the season finale for the Highlanders.

Longwood (11-7), went 3-0 in the tournament, defeating the Highlanders in the first four spots of singles competition to claim the victory.  NJIT ends its 2011 campaign with a 9-14 record. 

Freshman Petr Rousar finished with a 9-10 record at first singles and teamed with Joao Tasca in doubles competition, combining for a 5-7 record (2-4 at first doubles; 3-3 at the second spot).  Tasca, who joined the Highlander squad in January, finished the season with a 6-12 mark.

Teammate Ike Kiro combined for a 9-12 record competing at second and third singles.  Kiro teamed with Martin Cederqvist in doubles competition finishing with a 5-9 record (3-6 at first doubles, 2-3 at second doubles).  Cederqvist ended the season with a 9-11 record.
