Men’s Tennis Splits Weekend

PHILADELPHIA
– The NJIT men's tennis team split the weekend facing La Salle and Temple.  The Highlanders swept La Salle 7-0 and fell at Temple, 7-0.

 

NJIT vs. La Salle, W, 7-0

 

Doubles pair Petr Rousar and Ike Kiro took the first doubles contest, 8-1.

Kiro was a double winner taking Fernado Tovia by identical scores, 6-1, 6-1.

 

At second doubles Martin Cederqvist and Fraser Croad followed with a 8-2 win.  Cederqvist downed Joseph LaBate, 7-5, 6-2 at third singles and Croad was a 6-4, 6-2 winner at the fourth spot.

 

Bryan Keelan and Joao Tasca swept La Salle's duo at third doubles, 8-0.  Tasca won 6-3, 6-3 at first singles and Keelan was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at the sixth spot.

 

Playing at fifth singles was Dan Salomon who defeated Trevor Donovan 6-4, 3-6, 10-8.

 

NJIT vs. Temple, L, 0-7

 

Temple swept the singles and doubles contests.

 

Tasca went the distance at second singles with Stanislav Stekolshikov.  Tasca took the first set 6-4, but Temple's Stekolshikov bounced back taking the next two sets 6-2, 10-7.

 

Keelan and Salomon defeated Andrey Morozov and Mansur Gishaev at third doubles, 9-7.

 

NJIT will return to action this weekend when the team competes at the 2011 National Independent Tournament. 

 

The Highlanders will face Seattle at 8:30am on Friday and North Carolina Central at 11:30am.  NJIT will wrap up the tournament on Saturday at 11:30am and face host Longwood.
