ROMEOVILLE, IL—Lewis, ranked 12th in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association national men's poll, defeated visiting NJIT, 3-1, Friday evening at Neil Carey Arena in men's volleyball non-conference action.
Lewis recorded its 14th win of the season improving to 14-6 overall while NJIT falls to 5-14 on the season.
Michael Adams paced the home team offensively in his team's 25-18, 25-22, 16-25, 25-19 victory with a career-high 14 kills, with five errors on 34 attempts for a .265 attack percentage. The freshman added a team-high nine digs.
Teammates Brian Schmidt and Casey Bennett finished with 10 kills apiece while Yiwei Zhou had nine kills and seven total blocks (one solo, six block assists) for Lewis. Setter Carter Cassel piled up a match-high 37 assists for the Flyers.
Junior Adam Gustafson posted a double-double for the visitors with 12 kills and 16 digs. Sophomore Kevin Van Oss posted 12 kills of his own on 17 swings and just one error for a .647 hitting percentage. Andrei Stoyanow added 10 kills and six digs for the Highlanders.
Setter Matthew Lui notched 33 assists and five digs while libero Brady Smith posted nine digs.
The Highlanders will return to action on Saturday at Loyola-Chicago. The match is scheduled to begin at 7pm (CT).
