LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ—NJIT men's tennis closed the 2011 part of the 2011-12 schedule on Sunday, taking all six singles slots in straight sets, plus two of the three doubles to earn that point in a 7-0 victory at Rider.
Sophomore
Holger Norregaard and junior
Fraser Croad were the most decisive winners for the Highlanders, taking their singles matchups by identical 6-0, 6-1 scores. Norregaard topped Rider's Rollie Malfitano in first singles, while Croad topped Steve Brand at number four.
Joao Tasca, at number two, and
Ike Kiro, at number three, were 6-1, 6-2 singles winners for the NJIT, while Highlander
Bryan Keelan won sixth singles, 6-2, 6-1. The closest singles competition came at number five, with
Dan Salomon edging Rider's John Spellman in the first set, 6-4, before taking the second set more comfortably, 6-1.
The Highlanders took the doubles point with wins in the first two slots and a close loss in the third.
Petr Rousar and
Victor Martinez took number one from Malfitano and Nick Lubold, 8-3, and Keelan and Tasca defeated Drew Laverty and Brand of the Broncs, 8-2, at number two. Rider's duo of Milo Misovici and Ryan Carpenter were 8-6 winners in the third slot, topping Croad and Salomon.
The match at Rider completes the Fall schedule for the Highlanders, whose next scheduled competition will be at Sacred Heart in Fairfield, CT, on January 28, 2012.
