GREAT NECK, NY -- NJIT lost a hard fought battle to Maritime College Friday night at the Parkwood Ice Arena.
In a very physical game, reminiscent of the Flyers vs. Rangers battles in the '70s, NJIT came out on the short end of a 3-2 score.
Although the Highlanders were on the power play more than the Privateers, it did not turn out to be enough of an advantage as Maritime scored twice with a man advantage and once while shorthanded.
Meanwhile NJIT was blanked on all 8 power plays. Corrado Mancini scored late in the first period with assists from line mates Alex Guimares and Jason Anagnos to take a 1-0 lead and it seemed like the Highlanders had the game under control.
But in the middle of the second period Maritime tied is with a short hander and then followed up less than 2 minutes later with a power-play goal to take the lead.
A minute later NJIT came roaring back on a Robert Amos goal, assisted by Christopher Pawlik, to tie it up, which is how it stood until the middle of the 3rd period.
Another PP goal for the Privateers was the difference maker.
Nick Raite acquitted himself nicely in net, especially in the 2nd period, with 27 saves overall.
