Men’s Tennis Blanks Rider, 7-0

NJIT's Bryan Keelan double winner at sixth singles and third doubles

MONTCLAIR
, NJ – The NJIT men's tennis team recorded its first victory of the 2010 season with a dominant 7-0 win, shutting down Rider Tuesday afternoon at Brookdale Park.

 

Freshman Petr Rousar and captain Diego Abreu got the Highlanders started at first doubles with an 8-0 victory Rider's duo Drew Lavert and Chris Esposito.  Abreu recently took fifth place at the 2010 Northeast Intercollegiate last weekend defeating Hofstra's Antonio Pena, 6-4, 7-5, in the red flight.

 

At second doubles, Martin Cederqvist and Ike Kiro took an 8-0 victory while teammates Dan Salomon  and Bryan Keelan were victorious at third doubles, 8-4.  Cederqvist also took fifth at the 2010 Northeast Intercollegiate defeating Nick Newhouse, 6-2, 6-1, in the indigo flight.

 

Rousar topped Rollie Malfitano at first singles in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1 followed by a near shutout by Abreu at the second spot, 6-1, 6-0 over Broncs Drew Laverty.

 

Cederqvist and Salomon were 6-3, 6-0 winners at third and fifth singles picking up points for NJIT.  Kiro added a 6-0, 6-2 win at fourth singles and Keelan combined for a 6-2, 6-3 win at the sixth spot.

 

The Highlanders will return to action this weekend at the USTA National Tennis Center Men's College Invitational in Flushing, NY.
