FAIRFIELD, CT – The NJIT men's tennis team won its fourth straight match nipping Fairfield, 4-3, Monday afternoon snapping the Stags seven-match winning streak.
Fairfield, who falls to 10-6 on the season, took two out of three doubles contests picking up two points for the home team. Senior Stephen Erickson and Bryan Keelan were 8-3 winners at third doubles for the Highlanders.
NJIT bounced back in singles competition taking four out of six contests. Erickson, a double-winner on the day for the Highlanders was a 6-2, 7-6 (7-0) winner at first singles over Dan Sauter.
Sophomore Carl Lundquist won in straight sets over Fairfield's Joe Michalisin 7-5, 6-3 at the second spot.
Junior Diego Abreu edged Ryan Berthod at fourth singles. Berthod took the first set 7-6 (8-6) but Abreu won the next two 6-0, 6-0 for the victory.
Dimitri Athans competing at sixth singles was a 6-1, 6-4 winner over Mike Lessing.
NJIT, now 12-5 on the season, will return to action on Wednesday at Rider. The match is scheduled to start at 3:30pm.
