Men’s Volleyball Takes Harvard 3-1 in Season Finale

NJIT freshman Christian Puszies notches match-high 23 kills at Harvard in season finale

CAMBRIDGE, MAVisiting NJIT lost the first set, but rallied for a 3-1 win over Harvard in EIVA Hay Division men's volleyball action Saturday afternoon at Malkin Athletic Center in the season finale for both squads.

 

NJIT defeated Harvard 25-30, 30-17, 32-30 and 34-32 ending its season.  The Highlanders close out 2010 (3-18, 2-6 in the conference) while Harvard ends the season (5-16, 3-5 in the conference).

 

Freshman Christian Puszies led the Highlanders offensively collecting a match-high 23 kills and eight digs.  Adam Gustafson and Kevin Van Oss posted 15 and 14 kills respectively.  Gustafson made two errors in 32 attacks for a .406 hitting percentage.

 

Setter Matthew Lui was one dig shy a double-double piling up a match-high 53 assists and nine digs.  Gustafson recorded six block assists in front of the net while Doug Battersby added five block assists and one block solo.

 

Harvard had four players reach double-figures in the kills category led by Matt Jones (20), Gil Weintraub (17), Erik Kuld (16) and Soren Rosier (14).  Rob Lothman's notched a match-high 64 assists while Kuld tallied 12 digs defensively for Harvard.

 

Puszies led this year's team in kills with (320), service aces (19) and ranked third with (116) digs.  Lui led the team with (532) assists while Gustafson who split time with Lui at the setting position added (266).  Freshman Brady Smith dug-up (186) digs while classmate Doug Battersby had (78) total blocks.
