LYNBROOK, NY—The NJIT men's tennis team blanked Hofstra, 7-0, as the Highlanders won their third consecutive match, going to Long Island and defeating Hofstra at the SportimeNY courts Sunday evening.
The Highlanders (4-1) won all six singles matches, as well as all the two completed doubles to take the doubles point against Hofstra (1-2).
NJIT, which won its only dual match of the fall, opened the winter/spring part of the schedule with a 3-4 loss to Sacred Heart before reeling off wins in the last three, improving its result each time. The Highlanders beat Saint Peter's, 5-2, improved to 6-1 over Bryant and then 7-0 at Hofstra.
Carl Lundquist lost just one point in two sets, defeating Hofstra's Josh Levinson, 6-1, 6-0 at first singles. Diego Abreu was a 6-1, 6-3 winner at second singles over Ben Thompson-Star and teamed with Dan Salomon in a third doubles match that was not finished.
Cosmin Chiujdea won third singles, 6-0, 6-1, and teamed with Steve Erickson for a hard-fought first doubles win, 8-6, against Hofstra's Levinson and Thompson-Star.
Dimitri Athans (fourth singles), Salomon (number five), and Bryan Keelan (number six) all won to complete the singles sweep for NJIT.
Fraser Croad and Athans won second doubles, 8-3, to clinch the doubles point for the Highlanders.
The next scheduled match for NJIT is on Saturday at 8 pm against Howard at the Bogota Racquet Club in Bogota, NJ.
