WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The NJIT men's tennis team recorded its fourth 7-0 victory of the season Sunday afternoon with a dominant win over Monmouth.
The Highlanders won all six singles matches and swept three doubles contests for the team's eighth win of the season. NJIT has won the last seven out of eight matches.
Doubles pair Carl Lundquist and Diego Abreu started off the afternoon for NJIT edging Monmouth's Laurence Heads and David Sherwood 8-7(5) at first doubles. Lundquist won in straight sets at second singles, 6-4, 6-0 over Sherwood while Abreu won a three set tilt over Ben Dashiell, 6-4, 3-6, 10-4 at the fourth spot.
The Highlanders Dan Salomon and Bryan Keelan combined for a 9-7 win taking second doubles. NJIT won third doubles by default.
Senior Stephen Erickson was a 6-0, 7-5 winner at first singles. Freshman Fraser Croad and Cosmin Chiujdea went the distance in each of their matches. Croad notched a 7-6(6), 3-6, 10-5 win at third singles followed by a 6-7(4), 6-3, 10-7 win by Chiujdea at fith singles. Athans won by default at six singles.
NJIT, 8-2 on the season, will return to action on Sunday, March 7 when they travel to West Point, NY and face Army at 1:00pm.
