NEWARK, NJ – The NJIT men's volleyball team came up short Tuesday evening as it dropped a 3-0 (30-22,30-24,30-19) decision to Rutgers-Newark in an EIVA Hay Division match at The Golden Dome.
Raiders Marcin Midura posted a match-high 14 kills on just two errors on 21 attempts for a .571 hitting percentage. Dane Mulligan added 13 kills and match-high five digs. Jeff Zorning notched a match-high 41 assists and six aces for the Raiders.
The Highlanders (1-9, 1-3 EIVA Hay) got 10 kills from freshman outside hitter Kevin Van Oss while three Highlanders -- Charles Bell, Adam Gustafson and Christian Puszies recorded six kills apiece. Setter Matthew Lui piled up a team-high 21 assists.
Rutgers-Newark (2-9, 2-0 EIVA Hay) hit .432 over three frames compared to .133 for the Highlanders. The home team recorded 5.5 blocks with four Raiders recording two block assists while NJIT posted 5.0 blocks led by Lui with two block solos.
NJIT will break for a week before hosting Rutgers-Newark at the Estelle and Zoom Fleisher Athletic Center on March 2 at 7pm.
