NEWARK, NJ – The men's fencing team hosted the Annual NJIT Invitational Sunday afternoon at the Estelle and Zoom Fleisher Athletic Center.
The Highlanders went 3-1 on the day defeating William & Mary (14-13), Virginia (21-6) and Virginia Tech (18-9). NJIT's only team loss of the day was against Haverford (17-10).
Freshman Valentin Ischer had a stellar performance Sunday finishing with an 11-1 record. Dylan Carr and David Hatke went 7-1 while captain Tony Sorgi posted a 7-2 record.
Freshman Christian Aldover went 3-0 vs. Virginia in epee competition while teammate's Matthew DeVenjo and Michael Hamfeldt won two out of three bouts on the foil strip against Virginia.
The NJIT men's fencing team will return to action on Sunday when they compete at the MACFA Championships.
