MADISON, NJ – The NJIT men's fencing team posted a 3-1 record this past weekend competing at the Drew Invitational.
The Highlanders earned two big victories over Maryland and Hunter winning by identical scores, 18-9 and edged host Drew 15-12. The only loss of the day came against Rutgers, as the Scarlet Knights nipped the Highlanders, 14-13.
NJIT 18, Maryland 9
Highlanders' Bryan Ransinangue, Dylan Carr, Christian Aldover and Max McDermott combined for a perfect 3-0 record vs. Maryland. Andrew Kirk and Greg Biondo picked up two wins apiece for NJIT. The sabre squad went 9-0 vs. Maryland.
NJIT 18, Hunter 9
Five Highlanders won all three their bouts against Hunter. Captain Zachary Hvizdak recorded a 2-1 record while Biondo went 1-1. The sabre squad was 9-0 vs. Hunter and the epee squad went 6-3.
NJIT 15, Drew 12
Ransinangue and Carr were the only Highlanders to go 3-0 vs. Drew while McDermott picked up two victories and five different Highlanders added one win apiece to secure the victory. The Highlanders sabre squad finished 8-1.
Rutgers 14, NJIT 13
McDermott was the only Highlander to pick up three victories against Rutgers. Following McDermott was Michael Hamfeldt, Carr, and Kirk with two wins. # David Hatke# combined for a 2-1 record vs. Rutgers. The Highlanders foil squad finished 6-3 vs. Rutgers.
For the day, the Highlanders sabre squad compiled a 30-6 record while the epee and foil squad's went 17-19.
The fencing team will return to action on January 22 at the Penn Invitational.
