BROOKVILLE, NY – Despite being out-shot 38 - 30 the Pioneers of CW Post were able to make the best of their opportunities and defeat the NJIT Highlanders 3-1.
It took a while for the Highlanders to get their legs going, which resulted in two first period goals by the last year's league champions.
A power play goal in the middle of the 2nd period extended the lead to 3-0. After that it was almost all NJIT, except that every time they appeared ready to score, one of the Highlanders took a penalty.
Four penalties in the 2nd period followed by four in the 3rd sealed their fate.
The loan tally for the Highlanders was a short-handed goal by Robert Amos, who was sprung loose by a solid penalty kill effort by Gary Apito at the left point with 7:18 left on the clock in the 3rd period.
Michael Lipinski was very good in net for NJIT, but Andrew Palladino was just a little better at the other end.
