LEWISBURG, PA
—Bucknell used a pair of first-half goals to defeat visiting NJIT, 2-0, in non-conference men's soccer Tuesday night.

The Bison (7-6-2) got both of their goals in a space of 2:30 in the first half, as Brendan Burgdorf scored his sixth goal of the season at 28:13 and then Vinny Cinotti added insurance at 30:43 on his first score of the season.

The total shots were close (16-13 for Bucknell) and each team had seven shots on goal. As a result, Bison goalkeeper Tommy Caso's clean sheet included seven saves and NJIT keeper John Ricketti collected five saves. One Bucknell shot hit the post.

Before either team scored, Bucknell's Caso made three point-blank saves in the opening 24 minutes. Two of his big stops were on Papis Ciss and one was on Pete Walker.

The first Bucknell goal, by Burgdorf, was assisted by Travis Rand and Tommy McCabe. The play began when McCabe, who had a shot off the post earlier, took a pass from Rand and then sent the ball on to Burgdorf, who finished the play.

The second goal came on a long throw-in from Mayowa Alli into the box, where it glanced off a defender to Cinotti, who shot and scored from 10 yards.

There were two more good chances, one for each team. NJIT's Ricketti turned aside a shot by CK Kumah and Caso saved a hard 20-yard try from Angel Gomez.

NJIT (4-10) completed non-conference play with the loss at Bucknell. Next up for the Highlanders is an Atlantic Soccer Conference match on Saturday at 7 pm in Garden City, NY, against defending ASC champion Adelphi.
