PHILADELPHIA -- NJIT's Rob Amos netted his second hat trick in as many games, as the Highlanders defeated LaSalle Explorers 5 - 4.
In their first game of the realigned GNCHC the Highlanders were able to knock off an Eastern Divisional opponent on the road. Alex Guimares opened the scoring for the second straight game while linemate Ed Vinokur (1goal - 1 assist) picked a corner with a backhand shot off a beautiful feed from Chris Oertel, who had two assists.
Assists, also went to Jason Anagnos & Corrado Mancini. Michael Lipinski stopped 37 shots as the Highlanders withstood several Explorer power plays including being 2 men down on more than one occasion. Tenacious penalty killing on the 5 vs 3 situations by Ryan Calabro and Adam Finkle helped the visitors hold on for a nail biting win.
Sunday night brings the highly anticipated rematch with the Pirates of Seton Hall. This match-up between GNCHC and MACHA teams will be a good measuring stick for the Highlanders.
NJIT feels it has something to prove as the Pirates rolled to a lopsided victory in last year's outdoor classic
Game Time is 9:15 PM at the Prudential Center.
