NEWARK, NJ—Lewis, ranked 14th in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association national men's poll, swept NJIT, 3-0, Saturday afternoon in the second day of action at the 2010 Golden Dome Classic hosted by Rutgers-Newark.

The 30-19, 30-22, 30-23 loss to Lewis, which is from Romeoville, Illinois, came 24 hours after the Highlanders lost to 15th-ranked Saint Francis in first-day Golden Dome Classic action.

Lewis, which is the alma mater of NJIT's sixth-year head coach Ryan McNeil (Lewis, 2001), won on the strength of a potent .442 team hitting percentage and an 8-4 advantage in team blocks.

Ian Karbiener led the attack for the Flyers, notching 10 kills, with just two errors in 15 swings (.553 attack pct.). Mike Iandolo had a match-high 29 assists and two service aces, while Chris Biscardi was the top blocker for Lewis, recording four block assists. Brian Muesenfechter produced eight digs, followed by seven for Steve Soucy.

NJIT, which opened the season with a pair of losses at IPFW of the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association before its two matches against nationally-ranked foes in the Golden Dome Classic, had some strong individual performances against Lewis.

Freshman Christian Puszies topped the match in kills with 11 and his .391 attack percentage was impressive, as he had two errors in 23 attempts.

NJIT's two young setters combined for 27 assists, as freshman Matthew Lui had 17 and sophomore Adam Gustafson had 10.

Three different Highlanders had a service ace apiece, while Glen DeMagalhaes led the floor defense with seven digs. Senior Charles Bell was NJIT's top blocker, getting the only block solo of the match by either team, plus three block assists.

NJIT is off until Wednesday, February 3, when it hosts Sacred Heart in the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Hay Division opener at 7 pm in the Estelle and Zoom Fleisher Athletic Center.
