WEST POINT, NY – The NJIT men's and women's fencing teams competed at the Army Invitational Saturday afternoon competing against Hunter, Clemson, Stevens, City College of New York and host Army.
The NJIT men went 2-1 at the Invitational recording victories against Army (14-13) and Hunter (21-6) as Clemson nipped the Highlanders (14-13).
The epee squad which consisted of Zachary Hvizdak, Ischer Valentin, Justin Daniel and Andrew Kirk, who subbed in for Daniel in the final bout, swept Hunter 9-0.
Freshmen Dylan Carr and Christian Aldover won all three of their bouts in the sabre competition en route to a 8-1 victory over Army. Sophomore Peter Besada added two points for the Highlanders.
On the women's side, Kristen Hagen and Andrea Camargo finished the day 12-3 overall; sweeping CCNY and Army on the foil strip. Jennifer Ramos went 8-7 overall with a sweep against Hunter.
The Highlanders will break until February 6 when both teams compete at the Princeton Invitational.
