EAST STROUDSBURG, PA--East Stroudsburg won four the fifth time in its last six matches, including the last four straight, defeating NJIT, 3-0, in a Tuesday night cross-divisional Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association match.
NJIT is in the EIVA Tait Division, while East Stroudsburg plays in the EIVA Hay Division.
The streaking Warriors, who sustained two 3-1 losses to NJIT in their first three matches of the 2009 season, gained a measure of revenge with the comfortable home win over the Highlanders Tuesday night.
East Stroudsburg, which hit an impressive .360 as a team in its third meeting with the Highlanders, also dominated the serving game with six aces to one for NJIT.
Sophomore setter Josh Hobson had 42 assists triggering an attack that got a match-best 11 kills from senior Jon Daley (.400 attack pct.; 3 errors, 20 attempts) and 10 kills from sophomore Eli Porr (.364 attack pct.; 2 errors, 22 attempts).
Sophomore libero Drew Dvorsky led the ESU defense with 12 digs and Porr, with a strong two-way match, came up just short of a double-double, pairing nine digs with his 10 kills.
The teams were even with five team blocks apiece and the East Stroudsburg leader was Kyle Duffy with three block assists.
NJIT's top scorer on the evening was senior Amobi Armstrong, who notched 13 points on nine kills, the only ace of the night for the visitors and a match-best three block solos. He also led the Highlander defense on the floor with seven digs.
Freshman Adam Gustafson, whose play has been a welcome bright spot this season, put another part of his game on display at East Stroudsburg, sharing team honors for kills with the senior Armstrong at nine. Earlier this season, Gustafson had led the team in assists while playing setter and in digs while playing libero. 
Senior setter Rodrigo Correa passed for 35 assists in the match.
ESU had 20 kills in a 30-23 win in the first set, before fighting off NJIT for a 30-26 win in game two. NJIT led through the first two-thirds of the set before the Warriors won 10 of the final 14 points to take a 2-0 lead. The Warriors were never challenged in the clinching set, taking an early lead and hitting a match-best .379 (15 kills, 4 errors, 29 attacks).
NJIT's next match is Saturday at 5 pm, when the Highlanders host defending national champion Penn State in the Estelle and Zoom Fleisher Athletic Center.
