EASTON, PA -- The New Jersey Institute of Technology Highlanders traveled to Saint Francis (PA) tonight in an Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Tait Division men's volleyball match-up at DeGol Arena.
Saint Francis improves to 5-2 overall, 1-0 in the Tait Division while the Highlanders fall to 3-2 overall, 0-1 in EIVA Tait Division.
All three sets were close Friday night but Saint Francis came out on top each time, 30-28, 30-27 and 30-25.
The Highlanders had three players reach double-figure kill totals led by senior Amobi Armstrong with a team-high 11 kills. Junior Charles Bell and freshman Nick Jensen produced 10 kills apiece. Jensen hit .600 (10 kills, 1 error, 15 attempts).
Rookie Glen DeMagalhaes collected six digs followed by Bell with five while Jensen, Armstrong and Raphael Mattos added two digs apiece.
Senior setter Rodrigo Correa piled up a match-high 38 assists while classmate Robert Thomas combined for three blocks (1 solo; 2 assists) for the Highlanders.
The Red Flash was paced by Jodan Varee with a match-high 21 kills. Varee finished the night posting 21 kills on 29 attempts with four errors for a .586 hitting percentage.
Teammates Alex Fortney and Nick Rivett combined for 17 kills. Setter Shane Conley notched 31 assists playing two sets and Ryan Williams produced 13 assists playing the final set of the match.
Saint Francis's John Wappler posted a match-high 10 digs while Varee dug up six. Pete Freyer combined for four block assists leading the Red Flash.
NJIT will return to action Saturday when they face Juniata at 7pm.
