PISCATAWAY, NJ -- NJIT's Karen Cilento, Teresa Higgins, Sadie Mele and Rachael Abadie continued their record breaking run on the final day of competition at the Metropolitan Swimming Championships.
In the 400 freestyle relay preliminary heats, the Highlanders erased the former school record of 4:01.78 with their new mark of 3:58.08; good for the 11th place in the final.
In the evening's final they held on to their 11th place and improved their time to 3:56.80. It marked their seventh school record setting relay performance of the meet.
In the individual events, Abadie advanced to the bonus final in the 100 freestyle, qualifying in 19th place. Abadie improved her standing in the finals, racing to 17th place, winning her heat and breaking the school record. Her new record stands at :56.78.
In all, the Highlander women broke school records on ten occasions during the course of the meet, establishing new marks in the following six events:
