NEWARK, NJ – The NJIT basketball teams will take part in a women's-men's doubleheader that begins at 2 pm Saturday, with the NJIT women hosting Maine followed by a 4 pm tipoff with the NJIT men facing Lafayette.
The NJIT women will complete its three-game homestand after suffering a 52-49 loss to Albany Thursday evening. NJIT (1-2) got 11 points and nine rebounds from junior forward Ivana Seric, whose layup pulled the Highlanders to within a point of the lead, 48-47, with 46 seconds left. Senior Taiwo Oyelola added 10 points and seven rebounds for the Highlanders.
Maine dropped a 72-56 decision to Harvard Tuesday led by Jasmine Rush and Brittany Williams each with nine points off the bench. Amanda Tewksbury added eight points and seven rebounds for the Black Bears.
NJIT leads the all-time series vs. Maine, 1-0 (won in 2008-09).
The NJIT men, who were led by freshman Drejon Scott in the home opener, scored a game-high 15 points, leading six double-figure scorers in a 96-54 win over visiting St. Joseph's of New York. Every active player appeared in the game.
Lafayette (2-1), secured an 88-77 victory over Saint Francis (PA) Friday led by Jared Mintz's 24-points and Jim Mower's career-high 17 points.
Lafayette leads the all-time series vs. NJIT, 2-0 (won in 2006-07 and 2007-08).
