FAIRFIELD, CT – Fairfield defeated visiting New Jersey Institute of Technology Sunday afternoon in men's and women's swimming action.
The Highlanders picked up points in five events, with three swimmers. Sophomore Karen Cilento finished second in the 100 meter breaststroke at 1:27.85 and picked up a fourth place in the 50 meter freestyle.
Captain Teresa Higgins added a 2:37.04 finish in the 200 meter freestyle; and took first in the 100 meter butterfly at 1:27.34. Sadie Mele, competing in two events, was the leadoff leg in the 200 meter medley relay and placed third in the 100 meter backstroke with a time of 1:15.36.
On the men's side, captain Michael Lawson took a third place finish in the 100 meter breaststroke while freshman Andrew Helbers finished first in the 400 meter freestyle. Behind Helbers was NJIT's Matthew Negron and Pablo Botero. Botero competed in the 200 meter backstroke and finished second at 2:46.61.
The Highlanders will host Montclair State on Thursday, January 22 at 6pm.
