NEWARK, NJ: The New Jersey Institute of Technology men's tennis team was dominant in its 7-0 victory over visiting Rider Tuesday afternoon at Branch Brook Park.
The Highlanders won all six singles matches in straight sets and also swept the three doubles matches, including first and second doubles with identical scores, 8-5.
First-year head coach Michael Sowter picked up his first victory of the year after joining the Highlanders in early July.
NJIT's Steve Erickson had a big day, teaming with Cosmin Chiujdea to win, 8-5, at first doubles and notching a 6-3, 6-4 win in first singles over Rider 's Casey Jadlinski. Chiujdea went on to win at second singles 6-3, 6-2.
Junior Jonathan Lang combined with Dimitri Athans to take second doubles, 8-5, as Lang also won third singles, 6-4, 6-3.
NJIT's Anthony Tunnero and Dan Salomon picked up wins for the Highlanders at fourth and fifth singles.
The Highlanders, 1-0 on the season, will return to action on Saturday, September 20 at the ECAC Championships two-day event.
