New Jersey Institute of Technology opened its 2007-08 men's fencing season on Sunday in all-day competition hosted by Stevens Institute of Technology.
The Highlanders competed against Hunter, Yeshiva, Johns Hopkins and Stevens. The closet match for the Highlanders came against Yeshiva where they were edged 15-12.
In coming close to defeating Yeshiva, NJIT was a 6-3 winner in the foil and a 5-4 winner in the epee while Yeshiva went on to win the sabre.
In the freshmen's season debut, Amrit Ramjattan and Michael Davis won all three of their bouts sweeping NJIT's win in the foil. Andrew Kirk and Paul Lorenz picked up two wins each in the epee competion while Dan DeValve picked up the fifth point for the Highlanders.
Host Stevens topped NJIT, 20-7, as freshman Tyler Sells accounted for two of the NJIT points in the sabre competition.
Johns Hopkins defeated the Highlanders, 26-1, led by Kirk who picked up the only NJIT point in the epee.
NJIT returns to action on December 9 when they travel to Fairfield, Connecticut for the Sacred Heart Invitational against host Sacred Heart, Yeshiva and Hunter at 10am.
