NJIT baseball athlete Matt Weckerle, from Morganville, NJ has been selected as NJIT Male Athlete of the Week for his performance in last week’s games versus Saint Peter’s and FDU.
In the Highlanders single game against Peacocks last Tuesday, the senior homered for the tie-breaking run in the top of the 10th inning to put the Highlanders ahead 4-3. They would go on to win the game 5-3. Weckerle leads the team in home runs; he has seven of the teams15. NJIT split their four game series with FDU 2-2.
In those five games Weckerle batted .385 with seven runs, and was hit by a pitch seven times which attributed to his .600 on-base percentage. The outfielder also stole four bases on four attempts. He leads the team in 11 offensive categories, including runs scored with 33, runs batted in with 25, stolen bases with 13 and hit by pitch with 19.
