NEWARK, NJ - NJIT men's track and field athlete John Porteous, from Wood-Ridge, NJ has been selected as NJIT Male Athlete of the Week for his performance during the 2014 CTC Indoor Track and Field Championship at Wesleyan University.
Porteous put together a strong performance, capturing the men's 400 meter dash with a time of 49.12 along with the men's 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8:34. The junior recorded a second-place finish in the men's long jump with a distance of 20-11.75 (6.39m) and placed third in the men's 60 meter dash with a time of 7.05. Porteous times in the 60HH and 60 meter dash is a new school record.
Porteous’ times led the men’s team to a first place finish at the Championship, marking the first Indoor Team Championship for the NJIT men’s team.
NJIT will return to action Sunday, February 23 when the Highlanders compete at the Princeton Invitational.
