The Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association have voted NJIT senior guard Rayven Johnson onto the 2012-13 All-Met Women's Division I second team.
Johnson, who was named Most Valuable Player of the Great West Conference Tournament when she led the Highlanders to victory in the championship game with 20 points and an NJIT Division I-record 18 rebounds in an upset of regular season champ Utah Valley, was the top player for the Highlanders all season.
A first-team all-Great West Conference honoree for her play in the regular season, she topped NJIT this season in both scoring (15.9) and rebounding (10.5). The Rahway, NJ, native also led the team in steals (42), and made nearly 75 percent of her free throw attempts (137-184). She reached double-figure scoring in 24 out of 31 games and combined for 15 doubles-doubles while scoring a career-high 36 points against Texas-Pan American (February 2), one shy of the program Division I record.
Johnson is the career leader in rebounding (852) in NJIT's Division I era and second all-time overall. She also has 1,248 points—second in the DI era and fourth overall.
This season, NJIT set a new program Division I record for wins, on the way to the program's first Division I winning season (16-15) and first championship in women's basketball in the Division I era at NJIT (Great West Conference).
