Chris Flores has been named Great West Conference Player of the Week after leading the Highlanders to two victories last week. The weekly award was announced Monday by the league office.
Flores, who also won the award on Nov. 14, averaged 23.5 points per game last week in wins over New Hampshire and South Carolina State. The senior from Dorchester, Mass., scored 23 points in a 69-67 win over UNH on Wednesday, including the game-winning basket with 0.8 seconds remaining.
The GWC Preseason Player of the Year then followed up with a 24-point performance in the 72-63 victory over SCSU on Saturday. In helping to avenge an earlier loss to the Bulldogs, Flores scored 17 of his game-high 24 tallies in the second half.
Flores is currently the 11th all-time leading scorer in program history at 1,337 points. He is nine points away from passing Andrew Smith '95 (1,345) and entering the Top-10.
A three-time, All-GWC Second-Team selection, Flores currently leads the conference in scoring at 20.8 ppg. He has scored 20+ points in four of his five games this season, including an NJIT Division I record-tying 28 points in the opener at Providence College on Nov. 10.
In addition, Flores received the same honor from College Sports Madness, which identifies the highest impact players nationally and from each conference in a weekly feature.
