John Hannafin joins the NJIT women's basketball staff as an assistant coach, following four seasons (2022-26) at Lafayette College.
Hannafin began his collegiate coaching career at Lafayette in July 2022 as Director of Women's Basketball Operations before being promoted to assistant coach in July 2023. One year later, he added recruiting coordinator responsibilities to his role.
Prior to Lafayette, Hannafin spent three seasons (2019–22) as assistant girls' basketball coach at Staten Island Academy. His responsibilities included post-player development, practice planning, schedule coordination, and social media management. Hannafin helped guide the Tigers to a No. 4 ranking in New York State Class A and the 2022 NY Class A State Championship.
Hannafin also served as a student assistant for the women's basketball program at his alma mater, Springfield College. In that role, he assisted with scouting reports through Synergy Sports, supported day-to-day basketball operations, launched the program's first Facebook page, and created a monthly newsletter to strengthen engagement with alumni and supporters.
A native of Staten Island, Hannafin earned a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management from Springfield College in 2020 before completing a Master of Education in Physical Education (K–12) from Brooklyn College in May 2022.
