Dr. Jayson Smikle, recently promoted to Associate Athletic Director of Compliance in February 2021, enters his ninth year at NJIT. 

He joined the Highlanders in 2013 after four years at Pace University as Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and Academics. 

In his role as the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance at NJIT, his responsibilities include the daily operations of the compliance office for 19 sports.  Athletic Department Liaison for Financial Aid and Bursar, National Letter of Intent Program, Athletic Scholarship budget for all intercollegiate programs and sport supervisor for women's soccer.

While at Pace, Smikle served as a member of the Athletic Department Senior Administrative Team and liaison between various departments on campus such as (Admissions, Financial Aid, Residential Life). He was responsible for daily operations of the compliance and athletic academic office for 20 sports.  He also was  the Athletic Academic Advisor and SAAC co-advisor.

Smikle is a member of Minority Opportunities Athletic Association (MOAA) and National Association for Athletics Compliance (NAAC). In the summer of 2012, Smikle was selected as a participant for the Division II Mentor/ Mentee program and is a 2012 NCAA Leadership Institute graduate. In 2020, Smikle was selected to participate in the TopConnect ADsymposium.

Prior to time spent at Pace University, Smikle spent a year at University of Hartford, where he helped monitor 18 sports, worked with the business manager, and marketing and promotion team to promote game attendance and ticket sales. 

He started his career at Delaware State University in 2007 as Academic Support/Compliance, assisting student-athletes with eligibility, class registration and monitoring required study hall hours.

Smikle earned his bachelor’s degree from Delaware State University in 2006 with a degree in Sports Management & Communications and masters in Sports Administration in 2008.  He earned his doctorate degree in Educational Leadership from Saint Peter’s University in the summer of 2022.

A native of Paterson, NJ, he is a proud uncle of Ahmauri and Riley Smikle.
